Omnitron Technologies’ Surface Mount Technology services cater for efficient assembly of single boards, prototypes, and small production runs. This service provides where the PCB and parts may be in a form unsuitable for automatic assembly and/or the cost, set-up time, requirements and availability of larger automatic assembly services are not justifiable.

Our semi-automated equipment and set-ups are highly optimised for low volume assembly runs. To facilitate efficient operation, we have custom designed and built some specialised equipment for fast, accurate, high quality pasting, pick & placing and reflow. For example, the vision system and the PCB design file are linked together for placement guiding, profiling is done on-the-fly via up to 8 thermocouples mated to the board being reflowed, and all are controlled through a touch screen computer. Even the multiple task lighting is colour temperature selected to improve placement ergonomics.

We consider quality control at every level. This extends to a assembly report which is issued with each batch of boards assembled indicating paste type/batch, temperature profile, cleaning, any problems encountered, and other component/pcb design notes for reference and traceability issues. Every board lot that goes through the reflow oven has a recorded and archived temperature profile that can be accessed at any time.

What constitutes our maximum capability for efficient manual assembly depends on the board and land pattern design, quality of the PCB fabrication, the components, density, and batch quantity – batches from 1 to 100 are typical.
We support parts supplied in any form (loose in bag, cut short lengths, reels, trays etc) and most package types (from 0402 up, fine-pitch ICs, some BGAs, etc). Rework and modifications to prototypes and limited leaded component soldering also carried out.
